I saw somewhere that he was born in Hexham and went as far as checking if Hexham was in what used to be known as Cumberland, even though I know damn well that it isn't. And of course other sites clarify that he was born in Cumberland. You'll remember the other day I questioned whether the Ryder Cup captains were actually founding members of the restaurant in question. There are websiby Pippin - General Competition Chat

Where In The World Contest Saturday's Question - 6 months ago
This town, which has a connection with the picture, has a Guildhall that dates from the 15th century. The town is the former home town of a celebrity chef who is known for speaking his mind. There used to be an RAF station a couple of miles from the town and one of the people who served there in the 1940s went on to be a very successful science fiction writer. What is the name of the town ?by Pippin - General Competition Chat
Re: Competition Winners Hall Of Fame - 7 months ago
Well done, Deborah. It had been a long time since I'd won a prize either, apart from CC's own, like yourself. But I've just had the news that I've won a Rayo competition and the prize is 1.Return train travel from mainland UK to the winner's choice of UK town/city. 2.Afternoon tea at a local venue, typically including a set menu of scones, sandwiches, sweet treats and tby Pippin - General Competition Chat
Re: Competition wins - 9 months ago
Ah the Competitor's Companion paper magazine. I used to subscribe to that too. I think it was in the 1990s. It was quite a challenge going round the supermarket looking for the products with the entry forms on that CC had told you about. The competitions were nearly always slogan competitions and I invested in rhyming books etc to help. I remember posting off my entries in a stamped envby Pippin - UK Forum
Re: Amazon gift card - 9 months ago
I'm trying to remember how I received mine. I think CC will ask you to confirm that your Amazon account has the same email address as your CC account. If not, you'll need to give them you Amazon email address. Then I think the £5 just gets credited to your Amazon account.by Pippin - UK Forum

Sunday's Where In The World Question - 10 months ago
I was first out of the hat with Sunday's Where In The World but I must admit, I just couldn't work out why the photo of a person walking on a beach at dawn or dusk has anything to do with 'Star'. Can anyone enlighten me? Lesley D.by Pippin - General Competition Chat

Where In The World Wednesday 12th March 2025 - 1 year ago
Where In The World Wednesday 12th March 2025. Please can someone remind me of Wednesday's answer please. I was totally stumped and know I got it wrong. This city, which has a connection with the picture, is a major Mediterranean seaport and its name ends in a vowel. Yes - Merian C. Cooper seems to have worked on several newspapers in between his military service but not as editor and none that Allister Haddon Sparks was editor for. Still - I now know who created King Kong, if that should ever come up in another quizby Pippin - UK Forum

I've got the town but I just can't get the newspaper that the journalist (I know who that is) and the creator of King Kong (I know who that is too) both worked for. If you know, please let me know tomorrow, when this question is over. Ta. Pippinby Pippin - UK Forum
